📋 About This Mod

Replaces the vanilla red custom map marker with a clearer cyan marker.

The vanilla player-created map marker can be hard to see on dark terrain, interiors, and busy map backgrounds. This mod keeps the same simple marker style, but makes it brighter and easier to spot.

If you add custom marker inside Tomb - hovering the Tomb marker outside will show your marker inside (vanilla functionality) !

1. Extract the mod into your OpenMW mods directory.

2. The folder should look like this:

BetterCustomMarker

└── map_marker_red.dds

3. Open your openmw.cfg file.

4. Add a data line pointing to the mod folder:

data="C:\Path\To\BetterCustomMarker"5. Place the line after your main Morrowind data path and after other icon/UI replacers if you want this marker to win conflicts.

6. Start OpenMW.

Better Custom Marker replaces the vanilla custom map marker with a clearer cyan icon for improved visibility. It's a simple UI tweak for players who find the default marker hard to see. With only 3 endorsements and 581 downloads, it's a niche mod with minimal community traction.

✨ Key Features

Replaces the vanilla custom map marker with a clearer cyan icon.
Aims to improve visibility of the custom marker on the map.

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Directly addresses a common annoyance: the hard-to-see vanilla marker.
  • Simple and lightweight—no extra bloat, just a visual swap.
  • Freshly updated (July 2026), so it's likely compatible with current game versions.

⚠️ Cons

  • Tiny userbase (3 endorsements) means limited community validation.
  • Only one visual change—if you don't mind the vanilla marker, this adds nothing.
  • No screenshots or detailed description provided, so you can't preview the exact cyan shade before installing.
🎯 Is This For You?
For players who frequently use custom map markers and struggle to spot the default icon on the map. If you're fine with the vanilla marker or rarely use it, this mod won't matter to you. It's a pure cosmetic UI tweak with no gameplay impact.
📦 Install:Easy· Under 1 minute

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Since it's a UI replacement, make sure to place the file in the correct mod folder (e.g., Data or Mods) as per your game's structure.
  • If you use a mod manager, install it through that to keep track of updates and easy removal.
  • Test in-game by placing a custom marker on the map to see if the new icon is visible enough for your preference.
