Kinsect Powder Guard - Only You Can Pop Your Dust
🟢 Updated this monthPreview

📋 About This Mod
Stops followers and co-op teammates from detonating your kinsect powder, so the dust survives for Powder Vortex detonation. Works offline, in follower quests, and in co-op.
Description
Your kinsect powder gets popped by everything - your Palico, your followers, and other players' weapon hits. In co-op the dust is usually gone before you can even think about Powder Vortex.
Kinsect Powder Guard blocks the detonation check for every attack source except your own weapon, kinsect-type attacks, and the two vanilla powder mechanics themselves. The powder is never consumed, so it is still there when you want to vortex it.
Two things you should know before installing:
- Random players in a public lobby cannot be blocked. Detonation is calculated on the attacker's own client - that is how the game's networking is built, and no mod can change that.
- Co-op side effect when only you have the mod: the teammate's client still resolves the detonation while yours keeps the powder, so the same dust can theoretically be consumed twice (double status buildup). Fine among friends; if you care about balance, have the whole party install it and use Teammate Mode.
Installation instructions
Fluffy Mod Manager (recommended): drop the zip into Fluffy Mod Manager and enable it.
Manual install: copy the reframework folder from this mod into your game folder - the one that contains MonsterHunterRise.exe - merging it with the existing reframework folder. When you are done the script should be at:
MonsterHunterRise\reframework\autorun\KinsectPowderGuard.lua
Once in game, press Insert to open the REFramework overlay and go to Script Generated UI -> Kinsect Powder Guard. The options are:
- Enable - master switch
- Co-op Role - Dust Owner (default, for you) / Teammate Mode (tell your friends to pick this one)
- Remote Detonation Gate - the co-op powder-saving core, on by default
Settings save automatically to reframework/KinsectPowderGuard_Config.json.
If it loaded correctly the REFramework log will contain " Kinsect Powder Guard 1. 0. 0 loaded." and " Remote detonation gate mounted." - please tell me if the second line is missing.
Main features
- Follower protection - followers (melee, hunting horn, bowgun ammo) can no longer pop your powder.
- Co-op protection - when a teammate's client detonates your powder, your client rejects the sync packet. The powder survives on your screen and is still there for you to vortex.
- Teammate Mode - if the whole party installs the mod, non-IG players cannot trigger any powder detonation at all. Teammates pick Teammate Mode in the menu.
- Powder Vortex still works - "absorb" (the vortex detonation itself) and "bomb" (the vanilla powder-to-powder chain explosion) are explicitly allowed, so nothing about your own rotation changes.
- Nothing else is touched - no game asset is replaced and there are no file conflicts. It only hooks Lua behaviour.
Requirements
- REFramework - MANDATORY. This is a REFramework Lua script and it does nothing without it: https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterrise/mods/26
- Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, latest version.
- No other mods required. No file conflicts.
Shout outs
The hook-point research behind this mod was inspired by Asogi42's "Followers Ignore Kinsect Powder" (mod 3825), which covers follower quests only. It showed where the powder detonation check lives, and this mod was written from scratch to extend that idea to co-op. Go endorse it too: https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterrise/mods/3825
