It is designed to increase the time it takes to get max gear from 2 hours to about 7-10 hours but with becoming to grindy. It does this by changing - Mob and Player, health and damage. - Crafting Costs, reqiring different roods for tools. - Block Drops, adding a chance for copper to drop from diorite, granite and andesite.
