# Vanilla Spears Backport Feeling curious about the (https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/unveiling-mounts-of-mayhem) and want to try it before it arrives in a month or more? This small datapack backports all of the announced upcoming features into the current version of Minecraft (1.21.9), so you can start experimenting right now. Spears are a new tiered weapon type, crafted with two sticks plus a material component. This datapack is subject to change quickly as more information comes out! ### Weapon Stats **Attack Range** - Spears can damage up to 3 blocks further than any other melee weapon. **Shield Disabling** - A basic Spear jab can disable a players shield for 3.5 seconds, compared to the Axes 10 second disabling. **Attack Damage** - Spears do slightly less damage than a vanilla sword, and is slightly slower. ### Charging Hold right click to lower the spear, damaging enemies you move into. This adds extra damage depending on how quickly you're moving horizontally, by either mount, elytra or minecart, stacking up to an additional 35 damage on top of the weapons default attack damage. A Horse alone can add +6-8 damage onto the default attack damage. The attack damage can be increased with Speed and Strength potions, as well as Camel Charges and using blocks and items to move you (Like TNT or Wind Charge knockback). ## New Mob Variant Beware... the Zombie Jockey! Spawning rarely amongst groups of zombies, the Zombie Jockey rides a Zombie Horse and holds an Iron Spear! Piglin Jockeys may also occasionally spawn in the Nether, riding a hoglin and weilding a Golden Spear.
