📋 About This Mod
This mod improves the troop trees in PoP and is meant to be used as an add-on to the "Pendor Enhanced" submod. It also adds a small numbers of tweaks from the "Tweaks" page on the PoP wiki (credits to the original modders). Items were also
This mod started as a personal tweak compilation on top of the Pendor Enhanced submod. It is mostly my own work, but it draws some ideas from similar mods, especially the "Pendor Rearmed" submod (credits to the author Ldsantana) and uses many tweaks from point 17 q (credits to the original modders). Everything was done keeping vanilla balancing, flavor, and lore in mind.
All changes reflect my personal preferences and my experience with the game (800h on mound and blade, of which almost half on pendor alone) and try to be as unbiased as possible. All the changes were tested with different starting builds in the course of three different playthroughs that ended in the formation of a stable player kingdom with several fiefs and vassals, and are the result of hundreds of hours of carefully considering every unit to the last minute detail.
List of changes is not fully exhaustive since I'm going mostly from memory and because they are too many. Some more or less important changes might be left out. Almost all units had their equipment improved and can be seen from screenshots to a degree, so these are mostly omitted from the troop changes.
2. OBJECTIVES
- shake up the meta of f1-f3 full cavalry roflstomp, or sitting on a hill with full archer army. My attempt at tackling this issues consist of improving infantry and nerfing archers.
- improve the looks and performance of lower tier units, to make them more interesting and useful and consequently smooth out the early game since they are more competent at fighting the op bandits of Pendor.
3. DESIGN PRINCIPLES
- Every unit should be easily identifiable by a quick glance, via a unique combination of armor, helmet and/or weapon. Very few exceptions left. Elite units should be the easiest to identify, often via their flashy helmets (horned, plumed, crested, etc.) Keeping this in mind, variability between the same unit has been preserved and enhanced where possible, but subjected to this principle.
- Every upgrade path, unit or KO should give the player a good reason to choose it.
- Every upgrade should yield better equipment, and every unit should have equipment in line with its tier and level. This was rectified as there were some instances where upgrading a troop yielded worse equipment and some units had items too weak or strong for their tier. Upgrades in the lower troop tiers should feel more meaningful and tangible, both in aesthetics and performance.
- Many items have been tweaked to improve the troops that use them, for consistency or usefulness to the player.
- Every unit's stats, skills, proficiencies and gear should reflect its level. Most outliers have been brought in line respecting the game's templates, with a few carefully considered exceptions left.
- Different items of the same type should be of r
