Outstanding manufacturing quality, a moderate cyclic rate, and excellent balance gave it exceptional accuracy and controllability. Notable features include: — 9×19mm Parabellum chambering — simple blowback operation — open-bolt firing system — detachable box magazines holding 10, 20, 30, or 40 rounds — full-length wooden rifle-style stock — dual-trigger system: front trigger for semi-automatic fire, rear trigger for fully automatic fire The Beretta M38 became renowned for its superb craftsmanship, smooth recoil impulse, and exceptional reliability under demanding combat conditions. Its combination of precision, durability, and excellent handling earned it a reputation as one of the finest submachine guns of the Second World War. Historical Background Development of the Beretta Model 38 began in the late 1930s under designer Tullio Marengoni, and the weapon was officially adopted by Italy in 1938. During the Second World War, the M38 served with the Italian Army, Royal Navy, police forces, and elite units. Following Italy's 1943 armistice, many examples were also used by German forces, who greatly appreciated the weapon's quality and combat effectiveness. Several simplified wartime variants—including the M38A, M38/42, M38/43, M38/44, and M38/49—were introduced to speed production while preserving the weapon's excellent performance. After the war, the Beretta M38 remained in military and police service across Europe, the Middle East, and South America for many decades.
