Wz. 39 Mors

"Submachine Gun" "Poland's first submachine gun—a promising design whose future was cut short by war." Wz. 39 Mors The Wz. 39 Mors is a Polish submachine gun developed by the Państwowa Fabryka Karabinów (State Rifle Factory) as a modern automatic weapon for the Polish Armed Forces. The weapon operates using a simple blowback system and fires from an open bolt, combining mechanical simplicity with reliability and controllable automatic fire. Notable features include: — 9×19mm Parabellum chambering — simple blowback operation — open-bolt firing system — detachable 25-round box magazine — full-length wooden rifle-style stock — fire selector with semi-automatic and fully automatic modes The Wz. 39 Mors offered excellent ergonomics for its era, intuitive controls, and good practical accuracy in semi-automatic fire. Its moderate cyclic rate and the widely adopted 9×19mm cartridge provided effective controllability and solid close-range performance. Historical Background During the mid-1930s, the Polish Army sought a modern submachine gun for officers, armored vehicle crews, and specialized troops. The resulting Wz. 39 Mors was designed by Piotr Wilniewczyc and Jan Skrzypiński. Officially adopted in 1939, the weapon had only just entered production when Germany invaded Poland. Only a limited number of examples were completed before the outbreak of the Second World War. These saw combat during the September Campaign of 1939, after which production ended following the occupation of Poland. Although manufactured in very small numbers, the Wz. 39 Mors remains an important milestone in Polish firearms development and is regarded as one of the rarest production submachine guns of the Second World War.
