TT-33(S)

"Semi-Automatic Pistol" "Simple, powerful, and reliable—the hallmark of Soviet handgun design." TT-33 The TT-33 (Tokarev Pistol Model 1933) is a Soviet semi-automatic pistol designed by Fyodor Vasilyevich Tokarev as the standard military sidearm of the Red Army. The pistol operates using a short-recoil action with a Browning-inspired locking system, delivering excellent reliability, durability, and practical accuracy. Notable features include: — 7. 62×25mm Tokarev chambering — short-recoil operation — single-action (SA) trigger mechanism — 8-round single-stack magazine — removable fire-control assembly for simplified maintenance — robust all-steel construction The powerful 7. 62×25mm cartridge provides high muzzle velocity and impressive penetration, while the pistol's straightforward design makes it easy to manufacture and maintain. Its compact dimensions and dependable operation contributed to its long service life in both military and law enforcement roles. Historical Background In the late 1920s, the Soviet Union sought a modern semi-automatic pistol to replace the aging Nagant M1895 revolver. Designer Fyodor Tokarev developed a successful prototype that was adopted in 1930. After several improvements, the finalized TT-33 entered production in 1933 and became the standard sidearm of the Red Army. During the Second World War, the TT-33 was widely issued to officers, tank crews, reconnaissance units, and other Soviet military personnel. After the war, the pistol was manufactured under license—or copied—in numerous countries, including China, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Romania, Poland, and North Korea, making it one of the most widely produced military pistols of the twentieth century. Although gradually replaced by more modern sidearms, the TT-33 remains well known for its simplicity, powerful cartridge, and battlefield reliability.
