Artillery Luger

"Semi-Automatic Pistol" "The pistol that bridged the gap between classic sidearms and the first submachine guns." Artillery Luger The Artillery Luger, officially designated Lange Pistole 08 (LP08), is a German semi-automatic pistol developed by Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) as a specialized sidearm for artillery crews, machine gunners, and other troops requiring a compact yet effective firearm. The pistol employs the iconic short-recoil, toggle-lock action that made the Luger famous, delivering excellent accuracy and exceptionally smooth operation. Notable features include: — 9×19mm Parabellum chambering — short-recoil operation — toggle-lock action — 200 mm (8-inch) barrel — adjustable tangent rear sight graduated to 800 meters — provision for a detachable wooden shoulder stock/holster — compatibility with the 32-round Trommelmagazin 08 drum magazine Its extended barrel improved muzzle velocity and practical accuracy, while the detachable shoulder stock transformed the pistol into a compact carbine suitable for engaging targets at greater distances. These features made the Artillery Luger one of the most distinctive military pistols of the early twentieth century. Historical Background In the early twentieth century, the German Empire sought a compact firearm for artillery crews, machine gun teams, and support personnel who found carrying a full-length rifle impractical. The result was the Lange Pistole 08 (LP08), officially adopted in 1913. It featured a 200 mm barrel, an adjustable tangent sight, and the ability to attach a wooden shoulder stock. During the First World War, the Artillery Luger saw extensive service not only with artillery units but also with German assault troops. When paired with the Trommelmagazin 08 32-round drum magazine, it provided significantly greater sustained firepower in close-quarters combat. The LP08 also influenced the evolution of German automatic weapons. Its Trommelmagazin 08 drum magazine was later adapted for use
