STG 45(M)

"Assault Rifle" "Too late for the war. Perfect for the future." StG 45(M) The StG 45(M) is a German experimental assault rifle developed by Mauser during the final years of World War II as a simpler and more economical alternative to the StG 44. The rifle was chambered for the 7. 92×33mm Kurz intermediate cartridge and featured an innovative roller-delayed blowback operating system. Notable features include: — 7. 92×33mm Kurz chambering — roller-delayed blowback action — detachable box magazine — simplified production using stamped components Compared to the StG 44, the new design required fewer materials and less manufacturing time, an important advantage for Germany's wartime industry. Although it remained largely experimental, the StG 45(M) demonstrated the potential of its operating system and left a lasting mark on firearms development. Historical Background By 1944, German industry faced severe shortages of resources and constant Allied bombing campaigns. Mauser was tasked with creating a more affordable and easier-to-produce successor to the StG 44 while maintaining similar battlefield effectiveness. The result was the StG 45(M), with the "M" standing for Mauser. Its most important innovation was the roller-delayed blowback mechanism, eliminating the need for a conventional gas-operated system. The war ended before the rifle could enter large-scale production, but its designers continued developing the concept after 1945. The principles pioneered by the StG 45(M) directly influenced the Spanish CETME rifle and later the famous HK G3, one of the most successful battle rifles of the Cold War era.
