Shanxi Type 17

"Semi-Automatic Pistol" "When the Mauser got chambered in . 45 ACP." Shanxi Type 17 The Shanxi Type 17 is a Chinese semi-automatic pistol based on the famous German Mauser C96 and adapted to fire the powerful . 45 ACP cartridge. The pistol utilizes a short-recoil operating system while retaining the distinctive C96 layout, including the magazine positioned in front of the trigger guard. Notable features include: — Mauser C96-based design — chambered in . 45 ACP — stripper-clip loading from the top — high-capacity internal magazine — compatibility with a wooden shoulder-stock holster Due to the larger cartridge, the Shanxi Type 17 became heavier and bulkier than its German predecessor while maintaining impressive firepower and effective range. Its unusual combination of Chinese manufacturing and American ammunition makes it one of the most unique handguns of the early twentieth century. Historical Background During the early twentieth century, Mauser C96 pistols were extremely popular throughout China and saw widespread use among military forces, police units, and regional armies. In the 1920s, the warlord Yan Xishan ordered the production of a locally manufactured version of the C96. Because his forces possessed large stocks of American . 45 ACP ammunition, the pistol was redesigned specifically for that cartridge. Production began at the Taiyuan Arsenal, and the new weapon became known as the Type 17. Although manufactured in limited numbers, the Shanxi Type 17 became one of the most unusual variants of the Mauser C96, combining German engineering, Chinese production, and American ammunition. Today, surviving examples are highly sought after by collectors and firearms historians. If there are any bugs or malfunctions, write in the comments. I will try to fix them. From Ukraine with love!
