Together, the weapon system offers: — rifle fire for direct engagements — explosive firepower against groups and fortifications — increased battlefield versatility The GP-25 is loaded through the muzzle and features a simple but effective sighting system for indirect fire. This combination significantly enhances the combat effectiveness of the standard Kalashnikov platform. Historical Background The AK-47 became one of the most influential rifles ever produced after its adoption by the Soviet Union in 1949. To increase infantry firepower, Soviet engineers developed the GP-25 grenade launcher, which entered service in the late 1970s and was primarily used with AK-pattern rifles, especially the AK-74. The GP-25 allowed individual soldiers to carry organic explosive support without requiring a separate grenade-launching weapon. The system saw extensive use during the Soviet–Afghan War and numerous later conflicts around the world. Today, AK rifles equipped with GP-25 launchers remain among the most recognizable infantry weapon configurations ever fielded.
