Colt 733 Commando

"Carbine" “Compact firepower before the M4 era.” Colt Model 733 Commando The Colt Model 733 Commando is a compact carbine developed by Colt's Manufacturing Company as part of the CAR-15 family. It was designed for close-quarters combat and specialized operations requiring a lightweight and maneuverable weapon. Chambered in 5. 56×45mm NATO, the Model 733 operates using a direct impingement gas system, standard for AR-platform rifles. The carbine features a short barrel (typically around 11. 5 inches) and a telescoping stock, making it highly compact and easy to handle in confined environments. It feeds from standard STANAG magazines and maintains compatibility with other AR-15/M16 platform components. Its compact size makes it ideal for urban combat, vehicle crews, and special operations forces, though the shorter barrel results in increased muzzle blast and reduced effective range compared to full-length rifles. Historical Background The Colt Model 733 Commando was introduced in the 1980s as part of Colt’s continued development of compact carbines based on the M16 rifle platform. It became widely associated with U. S. special operations units and law enforcement teams, particularly before the adoption of the M4 carbine. The Model 733 saw use in various conflicts and operations during the late Cold War and into the 1990s. Eventually, it was largely replaced by more modern carbines such as the M4 carbine, which offered improved performance and standardization. Today, the 733 Commando remains an iconic representation of early compact AR carbines. If there are any bugs or malfunctions, write in the comments. I will try to fix them. From Ukraine with love!
