OTs-12

"Compact assault rifle" “Compact form, specialized power.” OTs-12 The OTs-12 is a compact assault rifle developed in Russia by KBP Instrument Design Bureau. It is based on the AKS-74U platform and adapted for specialized close-quarters roles. The rifle operates using a gas-operated system with a rotating bolt, consistent with Kalashnikov-type weapons, ensuring high reliability and ease of maintenance. Typically associated with the 9×39mm cartridge, the OTs-12 is designed to deliver high stopping power at short ranges, especially when used with subsonic ammunition and suppressors. Its compact size makes it ideal for urban combat, confined environments, and special operations, where maneuverability is critical. The weapon uses detachable box magazines and maintains familiar AK-style controls. Historical Background The OTs-12 was developed in the 1990s by KBP Instrument Design Bureau. It was part of a broader effort to create compact weapons capable of firing specialized subsonic ammunition for law enforcement and special forces. The design draws heavily from the AKS-74U, providing a familiar platform while adapting it to a different operational role. Although innovative, the OTs-12 remained a limited-production weapon, as more advanced systems like the AS Val gained wider adoption. Today, it is considered a rare and experimental branch in the evolution of compact Russian firearms. If there are any bugs or malfunctions, write in the comments. I will try to fix them.
