Tabuk Sniper Rifle

"Designated marksman rifle" (DMR) “AK precision extended beyond its limits.” Tabuk Sniper Rifle The Tabuk Sniper Rifle is a designated marksman rifle developed in Iraq, based on the Zastava M70 platform. Despite its name, it is not a true sniper rifle but rather a semi-automatic precision rifle intended for mid-range engagements. Chambered in 7. 62×39mm, the Tabuk uses a gas-operated system with a rotating bolt, typical of Kalashnikov-pattern firearms. This ensures reliable operation even in harsh conditions. Unlike standard AK rifles, the Tabuk features a longer barrel, improved sight radius, and is often equipped with a scope mount for optical sights. These modifications enhance accuracy and make it more suitable for precision roles within infantry units. The rifle is designed to bridge the gap between standard infantry weapons and dedicated sniper systems. Historical Background The Tabuk Sniper Rifle was developed in the 1970s–1980s in Iraq. It was produced at the Al-Qadisiyah Establishments, based on licensed production of Yugoslav Zastava M70 rifles. The Tabuk was created to provide Iraqi forces with a designated marksman capability without adopting a completely new weapon system. It saw use during regional conflicts and became known for its distinctive long-barrel AK-style design. Although often referred to as a “sniper rifle,” its effective role is closer to that of a DMR.
