"General-purpose machine gun" “Reliable sustained firepower for modern infantry.” M240B machine gun The M240B is a belt-fed general-purpose machine gun used by the United States military, developed from the Belgian FN MAG design by FN Herstal. Chambered in 7. 62×51mm NATO, the M240B is known for its durability, accuracy, and sustained fire capability. The weapon is typically deployed with a bipod for infantry use but can also be mounted on a tripod or vehicle for increased stability and firepower. Compared to lighter machine guns, the M240B is heavier, but this contributes to better recoil control and improved accuracy during sustained fire. It is widely used for suppressive fire, defensive positions, and support roles in infantry units. Historical Background The M240B machine gun was adopted by the U. S. military in the late 1990s as a replacement for the M60 machine gun. Its design is based on the proven FN MAG, which has been widely used around the world since the 1950s. The American designation “M240” refers to a series of variants, with the M240B becoming the standard infantry version. The M240B has seen extensive service in modern conflicts, including operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, where it earned a reputation for exceptional reliability and performance under sustained fire. Today, it remains one of the primary general-purpose machine guns used by U. S. forces and allied militaries. If there are any bugs or malfunctions, write in the comments. I will try to fix them.
