Lusa 9mm

"Submachine gun" “A modern echo of a World War II classic.” Lusa 9mm The Lusa 9mm is a Portuguese submachine gun developed as a modernized derivative of the classic MP40 design. Chambered in 9×19mm Parabellum, the weapon combines a traditional open-bolt blowback system with updated materials and manufacturing techniques. Produced by Industrias Nacionais de Defesa, the Lusa retains the iconic telescoping bolt and compact layout reminiscent of the MP40, while incorporating modern improvements such as enhanced ergonomics and compatibility with contemporary accessories. The weapon features a folding stock, detachable box magazine, and simple controls, making it easy to operate and maintain. Its design emphasizes reliability and cost-effectiveness, making it suitable for military, police, and security forces. Despite its familiar appearance, the Lusa is not a direct copy but rather an evolution of earlier submachine gun concepts adapted to modern production standards. Historical Background The Lusa 9mm was developed in the late 20th century in Portugal as part of an effort to create a domestically produced submachine gun. Drawing inspiration from proven World War II-era designs like the MP40, the designers aimed to produce a reliable and affordable weapon using updated industrial methods. Although the Lusa did not achieve widespread international adoption, it represents an interesting example of how classic firearm designs continued to influence modern weapons development. Today, the Lusa 9mm remains a relatively obscure firearm, known mainly among collectors and enthusiasts of unusual submachine guns. If there are any bugs or malfunctions, write in the comments.
