Ingram MAC 10

"Submachine gun" “A compact American machine pistol with an extremely high rate of fire.” MAC-10 The MAC-10 is a compact submachine gun developed in the United States during the 1960s by American firearms designer Gordon B. Ingram. The weapon was designed to be extremely compact, simple to manufacture, and capable of delivering a very high rate of fire. Originally produced by Military Armament Corporation, the MAC-10 was chambered in several calibers, most commonly . 45 ACP and 9×19mm Parabellum. Its simple blowback operation and stamped metal construction made the weapon inexpensive and easy to mass-produce. One of the defining features of the MAC-10 is its extremely high cyclic rate, often exceeding 1,000 rounds per minute. Because of this, the weapon was often paired with a suppressor, which also helped control recoil during automatic fire. The MAC-10 is recognizable for its compact boxy receiver, telescoping bolt design, and folding wire stock, making it easy to conceal and carry. Despite its simple construction, the weapon gained widespread recognition and became one of the most iconic compact submachine guns of the Cold War era. Historical Background The MAC-10 was developed in the mid-1960s as part of a project to create a lightweight and compact automatic weapon for military and special operations use. The design was finalized by Gordon B. Ingram and entered production under Military Armament Corporation. During the late 1960s and early 1970s the MAC-10 was marketed to military units, law enforcement agencies, and special operations forces. The weapon was often issued with a suppressor as part of the original system concept. Although the original company eventually went bankrupt, the MAC-10 design continued to be produced by other manufacturers and remains one of the most recognizable American submachine guns ever created.
