HK MP5K

"Compact submachine gun" “Compact precision for close quarters.” Heckler & Koch MP5K The HK MP5K is a compact variant of the legendary MP5 submachine gun family, chambered in 9×19mm Parabellum. The “K” stands for Kurz (German for “short”), reflecting its ultra-compact design intended for close protection and confined environments. Unlike many modern submachine guns that use simple blowback systems, the MP5K operates on a roller-delayed blowback mechanism. This system contributes to smooth recoil characteristics and excellent controllability despite the weapon’s small size. Key features: 9×19mm Parabellum chambering Roller-delayed blowback operation Extremely compact dimensions High rate of fire (select-fire military variants) Designed for close protection and CQB roles Historical Background The MP5K was developed by Heckler & Koch in the 1970s as a more compact alternative to the standard MP5. It was specifically intended for VIP protection units, special operations forces, and situations where concealability and maneuverability were critical. The MP5 family itself became internationally recognized after its use by elite counter-terror units such as SAS during the 1980 Iranian Embassy siege in London, which significantly boosted the platform’s global reputation. The MP5K remains one of the most iconic compact submachine guns ever produced, widely adopted by military, law enforcement, and protective services around the world.
