After the company relocated to the United States, production continued under Intratec, which marketed the firearm primarily in the 1980s and 1990s. Several versions were produced, including the KG-9 and later the TEC-DC9. Due to its controversial reputation and regulatory changes in the U. S., production eventually ceased in the early 2000s. While mechanically simple and inexpensive to manufacture, the TEC-9 remains one of the most recognizable civilian semi-automatic pistols of its era.
