M16

"Standard Military Service Rifle" “Lightweight revolution. Modern infantry standard.” M16 rifle is a lightweight, gas-operated, magazine-fed rifle chambered in 5. 56×45mm NATO. Developed in the late 1950s, it became one of the most recognizable service rifles of the 20th century. The rifle was originally designed by Eugene Stoner at ArmaLite as the AR-15. After further development and military trials, it was adopted by the U. S. military in the 1960s under the designation M16. The M16 uses a direct impingement gas system and fires from a rotating bolt. Early models featured a 20-round magazine (later 30-round), lightweight aluminum receivers, and polymer furniture—innovative materials for the time. The rifle offers controllable automatic or burst fire (depending on variant) and good accuracy at medium ranges. Brief historical background: The M16 saw extensive use during the Vietnam War, where early reliability issues—largely related to ammunition changes and maintenance practices—affected its reputation. After modifications (notably the M16A1 improvements), the rifle proved effective and remained in U. S. service for decades. Later variants such as the M16A2, M16A3, and M16A4 introduced refinements including improved sights, barrel twist rates, and burst-fire mechanisms. The M16 platform also led to the development of the M4 carbine and influenced countless modern rifle designs worldwide. If there are any bugs or malfunctions, write in the comments.
