1911 Longside

"Historical / Custom Precision Pistol" “Old caliber. Extended legacy.” 1911 Longslide (. 38 Long Colt) is a rare and highly unconventional variant of the classic 1911 platform, adapted to fire the historic . 38 Long Colt cartridge. Unlike the traditional . 45 ACP chambering, this configuration emphasizes controllability and historical character over raw stopping power. The extended Longslide configuration — typically featuring a 6-inch barrel — improves sight radius and balance, allowing for smoother recoil impulse and increased precision. When paired with the relatively mild . 38 Long Colt cartridge, the result is a soft-shooting, precision-oriented 1911 variant with a distinctive ballistic profile. Originally developed in the late 19th century, the . 38 Long Colt cartridge was used by the U. S. military before the adoption of the . 45 ACP. Adapting a 1911 platform to this older revolver cartridge represents a niche or custom approach rather than a standard military configuration. Brief historical background: The . 38 Long Colt was adopted by the U. S. Army in the 1890s for revolvers such as the Colt M1892. Combat experience later revealed its limited stopping power, leading to the development and adoption of the . 45 ACP and the M1911 pistol in 1911. A 1911 Longslide chambered in . 38 Long Colt is therefore a historical hybrid — combining a platform born from battlefield lessons with the cartridge that preceded it.
