Colt XM177 (CAR-15)

"Historic Compact Carbine" “Short, loud, and fast — built for men who move ahead of the line.” The Colt XM177, part of the CAR-15 family, is a compact carbine developed during the Vietnam War for special forces, airborne units, and reconnaissance troops. Designed for close-quarters combat and high mobility, it featured a shortened barrel, collapsible stock, and lightweight construction, making it ideal for jungle warfare and rapid engagements. Chambered in 5. 56×45mm, the XM177 delivered controllable automatic fire in a compact package. Its distinctive moderator reduced muzzle blast and flash, improving handling in confined spaces. Though officially an experimental designation, the XM177 became a battlefield-proven weapon that influenced generations of modern carbines.
