Colt 608

"Experimental Automatic Carbine" “Built for movement, not suppression. A rifle made to survive where heavy weapons fail.” The Colt 608 is a rare experimental automatic carbine based on the early AR-15 / M16 platform. Designed during the Vietnam War era, it was intended as a lightweight, compact automatic rifle for mobile troops, survival scenarios, and close-to-medium range engagements — not as a machine gun. Featuring a shortened barrel, collapsible stock, and full-auto capability, the Colt 608 prioritized mobility, simplicity, and firepower in a compact form. It was meant for soldiers who needed an automatic weapon that could be carried easily, deployed quickly, and used aggressively in harsh environments. Though never adopted into mass service, the Colt 608 remains a fascinating example of early AR-platform experimentation focused on survival and maneuverability rather than sustained fire.
