GAME

Mass Effect: Andromeda has a bug - that hasn't been addressed since release - where the exclamation marks that show up telling you there's a new item persist permanently even when you've checked every item in your Journal, Inventory, or Skills. This issue starts to arise around the time when you craft Nomad upgrades or do Liam's Special Request Quest. There is a mod called No New Notifications by alineinabook that addresses this issue. It hides ALL notifications in all menus including shops and level up icons.

The Aim

Rather than using a Sir Isaac Newton to solve the problem, I wanted to take a more specific and precise approach to the problem. The main issue with the bug seems to be that the exclamation marks persist in the Pause Menu and the Selector Bar. Within the menus, the icons seem to function properly, and exclamation marks go away when you view the items. So I wanted to hide the exclamation marks for the Pause Menu and the Selector Bar whilst still retaining the function of the exclamation marks on new items, codex entries, mission entries, etc. so that I could find them easily.

The Result

I was able to find the UI texture that contains the exclamation mark for the Pause Menu. Unfortunately, this one icon is not used exclusively for the Pause Menu - it is also used in the Inventory Menu - and there's no way to separate them. Fortunately, the Selector Bar uses it's own icon and I was able to make a module for that removing the exclamation marks.

The Mod

There are 3 files.

No Exclamation Marks - Pause Menu and Inventory

This is the main file. It removes the exclamation marks from the Pause Menu.

As an unintended side effect, it also removes the exclamation marks from the inventory, so it won't be clear any more what's new in the inventory. Bit of a shame this is the case. This doesn't affect the exclamation marks on the top selector bar, so you can still be aware of the presence of new items - but this bar is affected by the exclamation mark bug.

No Exclamation Marks - All Menus

This is a main file. Do not use the Pause Menu and Inventory if you intend to use this. This removes the exclamation marks from all of Ryder's menus. This means the Journal, Codex, Inventory, and Skills menu. This does not affect shops or the players/companions level up icons nor does it affect the top selector bar.
