📋 About This Mod

A complete rebalance of every Magnum Opus upgrade and alternate car, including a fix for the vanilla exhaust upgrade bug

In general terms, the goals of this mod are to amplify the tradeoffs of magnum opus parts to make the car less of a mono-build and raise the skill ceiling of driving across the board.  Most cars are faster, more hoonable, and more differentiated from each other.  Also, some fun extras like the ability to switch to the bodyless opus from the tutorial section are included.

All the starter parts are worse.  The start of game opus totally sucks now.  But the first stage upgrades are a bigger jump in performance - jury rigged junk to real parts is a big difference, after all.

Exhaust upgrades and top speed hood ornaments now work.  In the vanilla game they do nothing.  One line of code needed one added operation to fix it.  They do have diminishing returns, so the difference between tier 1 and tier 2 is as big as the difference between tier 3 and tier 5.

Weight is a bigger factor in performance, and has been redistributed among parts.  Rams now ramp up in weight much more steeply, and armor significantly less so.  V6 engines are lighter, v8s are heavier, and the later v8s are significantly heavier.  Running the heaviest ram and armor together will overwhelm most of the engine upgrade tiers, and require serious torque to actually be fast with.  Throwing weight on the front of the car also now pulls the nose down, and overloading it enough to bottom out the front suspension makes the car handle terribly.  Conversely, a light car with too much power and too much lift becomes top-heavy and unstable, and handles a different kind of terribly.  All this is to say that you'll want to put a little more thought than "install newest unlocks in every category" into your Magnum Opus - you'll have to choose what you want it to be good at, and what you're willing to give up in exchange (until you get ALL the best unlocks, which all support each other pretty well).

Tires have also been more widely differentiated - slick rubs will just spin and slide on dirt but stick like glue on asphalt, while the paddle tires will be nearly undriveable on asphalt but make their roads wherever they want.  Wide treadies and sandsliders have more noticeable performance differences on/off road, but they're not as specialized as the slicks and paddle tires.  Interestingly, dirt roads seem to not count as dirt or roads, so all the tires work okay there except the threadbare rollers which barely work anywhere.

Unlock progression is changed as well.  Wide Treadies are now unlocked early in pink eye's territory rather than gutgash's because unlocking the asphalt tires in an area with zero asphalt was always dumb.  The other tire unlocks have been moved earlier to compensate. Some other performance mods are also moved to pink eye's unlock tree, since pink eye is described as being the one that specializes in racing parts.  The ram unlocked by gutgash's side quests has been switched to the second to last one to fit the parts rebalance better.  Tire 3 boarder spikes now unlock later, but the tier 2 ones no longer have a special requirement.  The harpoon's tier 2 upgrade has been made very cheap and the tier 3 one unlocks sooner, because that was easier than removing tier 2 and skipping straight to tier 3 like I would have preferred.

All of the other cars have had at least a quick and dirty balance pass to bring them more in line with the new power curve of the opus, with some admittedly getting more attention than others.  Of particular note: The twelve and the interceptor are now extremely fast, but also more stable, and scrapbulances are still underpowered, ill-handling, and overloaded, but no longer maddeningly so.  A few vehicles have also had adjustments to track width or stance, like skullbutts and hardball.

Bodyless opus is not full featured - no upgrades are visible and no weapons work except the shotgun.  I just put it in the menu for fun.

This mod supercedes both the Magnum Opus Hooning enhancement and Interceptor physics overhaul mods.  Those were starting points for this.

For those who don't know: this game does have a handbrake button, but it's unbound by default.  You're going to want to bind that.
