Description

Getting back into this game recently, I realized I was not happy with the fuel economy. My fuel gauge hardly ever moved. And to make matters worse, while re-familiarizing myself with a game I haven't played in years, I saw that past-me had stupidly put 7 whole Griffa tokens into the Adaptation skill! Not wanting to lose all my progress just to undo those points, I started looking for fuel drain mods. And when I didn't find any of those, I started looking into making one for myself.

And man.. what a mess that turned out to be.

I started by attempting to unpack the game files, hoping to find a simple Fuel_Economy.xml. But I was not that lucky. That whole process just ended up getting me nowhere, slowly. So I moved on to the next thing Gemini suggested: Cheat Engine. And yes, I utilized AI to make this mod. I know that's generally frowned upon, and I agree with that. But the simple fact is, I don't know how to code.

So I spent 10 days learning how to use Cheat Engine and wrangling Gemini to stop hallucinating long enough to write me a usable script. And through this whole process, I learned two things: One, is that we are still a long way off from having AI overlords. And two, it's a miracle there are any mods for this game.

But whatever. The cheat table is done. And I decided to share it because I saw a lot of other people wanting a mod like this when I was searching for one myself.

Final thing I'll say is, this mod is extremely simple. Simple to make, and simple to use. But in an effort to hopefully leave no one with questions, I'm going to over-explain the sh!t out of it.

Installation & usage instructions

• []Install Cheat Engine (Your antivirus is not going to be happy, and is probably going to yell at you, but the program is safe. Google to verify.)[/]

  []Download my MM_GasGuzzler.ct file and place it wherever you like.[/]

  []Launch the game and load into your save file. [/]

  []Double click my . CT file and select "Always" or "Only when signed, else ask" for the table lua window that pops up.[/]

  []Wait for the box next to Gas Guzzler to get a red X.[/]

  []You're all set![/]

  []Now just change the "Value" number for "Fuel Drain" to your preference (be sure to save after you find it).[/]

  []The higher the number, the quicker your fuel drains.[/]

Main features

The mod has a Table Lua and 3 main sections: Gas Guzzler, Drain Rate and Current Fuel Level. All sections can be controlled with Hotkeys.

This is the part of the mod that automatically adds the game process to Cheat Engine, and automatically starts the script. I pushed to make this as plug-and-play and user-friendly as possible. A consequence of this, however, is that you'll get a pop-up window whenever you open my . CT file. It's asking you when you want to run cheat table lua scripts, bc like anything from the internet, people can distribute them maliciously. If you don't want that window popping up every time, click "always". If you download and use cheat tables often, probably best to leave it on "when signed, else ask".

Gas Guzzler:

This is the meat and taters of the mod. The main script. The only thing you need to worry about with this section is if the box next to it gets the X in it. That means the game was hooked and the script is functioning. It can be toggled on/off with F1.

The X will appear automatically a few seconds after you open the MM_GasGuzzler.ct file, as long as you open it AFTER you've launched the game and loaded into your save (and are in the car, preferably). If not, you'll have to hook the game and check the box yourself. Or, you could just close Cheat Engine and run the . CT file again once you're in-game.
