📋 About This Mod

Improves inventory sorting by adding more group/categories. No longer need to resort to item renaming!

Mod Purpose

Since the first game, Kingdom Come Deliverance had a very detailed and complex inventory and equipment system: if compared to other games, where you have about four equippable slots, KCD goes further and simulates a layered clothing and armor system. While this adds to realism and immersion, it also makes inventory management a bit more complex, since you have to account for more than 20 equippable slots.

The traditional way to manage this, back from the KCD1 days, has been to rename the Item names, so that, for example, your "Saxon gambeson" becomes "Gambeson, Saxon", or " Saxon Gambeson".

Needless to say, this makes the names longer, causing possible problems in some of the UI panels, or makes the item names unnatural and bureaucratic. I never liked this kind of approach.

Fortunately, the second game improves over the first one in a clever way: in addition to the classic Weapons/Armor/Etc tabs, it adds some nice Headings categories that group together related items. Unfortunately, these groupings are not mapped precisely to each equippable slot, having some broader categories like "Head", "Body" and so on.

So the original problem is only mitigated and not really solved. Luckily enough, it is not that difficult to extend this Headings system to be more granular and specific to what Equippable Slots expect. This is exactly what this mod does, greatly enhancing inventory management, shopping at merchants, looting, etc.

The goal is to make inventory management easier and more efficient by grouping together items by their intended use, not to categorize each item in an "encyclopedic" way, and without adding too many categories that will make item browsing too difficult.

New Categories

An overview of the vanilla groupings vs the more granular ones added by this mod:

Swords                 -> Longswords, Shortswords

Blunt/Heavy Weapons    -> Axes, Maces

Shields                -> UNCHANGED

Polearms               -> UNCHANGED

Ranged                 -> Bows, Crossbows, Firearms

Ammo                   -> Arrows, Bolts, Ammo

Other Weapons          -> UNCHANGED

Head                   -> Helmets, Coifs, Collars, Hoods, Caps

Body                   -> Plate, Chainmail, Gambesons, Coats, Tunics, Belts & Pouches

Arms                   -> Arms, Hands

Legs                   -> Cuisses, Hoses, Shoes, Spurs

// Horse Equipment

Horse                  -> Bridles, Torso, Saddles, Horseshoes

// Other Items

Utilities              -> Repair Kits, Utilities

Alchemy                -> Herbs, Dried Herbs, Alchemy

Anything else that is not directly mentioned in the list above was not edited and stays as in vanilla. Notably, women's clothing is not affected since it is not equippable and retains its "Other Clothing".

Cumulative weight and price totals

By default, the game displays unitary weight and prices, even when you have stacks of many similar items.

Starting from version 0. 4. 0, this mod adds a total weight and price value display mode, but only when you sort for that specific column:

  • []When you sort by the "weight" column, the weight of the stack is cumulative[/]

    []When you sort by the "price" column, the price of the stack is cumulative[/]

    []When sorting by any other column (including the default "name"), you still get the vanilla unitary values (this also means that sorting by weight will not stack prices, and vice-versa)[/]

The choice to only display cumulative values when sorting by the specific column is done on purpose, since I still find it useful to tell at a glance how much a single item weighs and costs.

Compatibility

This mod makes edits to the following vanilla files:

Libs/UI/ApseInventoryList.gfx

Libs/UI/ItemSelection.gfx

Libs/UI/ItemTransfer.gfx

There should be no problems with any mod that is NOT editing the same files.

Making your mods compatible with True Sorted Inventory

This mod by default handles all vanilla items with a combination of rules intended to correctly place each item into its own intended new category. The categorization is based on each item's "UIName" attribute.

Since True Sorted Inventory can't know in advance custom "UIName" attributes
