What is The New Dinosaurs: An Alternative Evolution?
Published in 1988, The New Dinosaurs: An Alternative Evolution explores a hypothetical Earth where the mass extinction 65 million years ago never occurred, allowing dinosaurs and other Mesozoic animals to continue evolving into the present day (Dixon, 1988) Unlike his earlier book After Man, which projected a future ecosystem, this work focuses on zoogeography, showing how dinosaurs might have adapted to Cenozoic climates, continental shifts, and ecological niches (Dixon, 1988). Dixon applied evolutionary theory and paleontological knowledge to create plausible, imaginative creatures, each with its own binomial name and behavioral description.
