# HD2 Retagger

HD2 Retagger is a Windows tool for Helldivers 2 that can move existing Armor/Helmet appearance mods to different equipment and also update older mods that stopped working after game updates.

You do not need to manually edit Unit IDs, archive hashes, or patch files.

Load the mod's patch file, select what you want to do, and HD2 Retagger handles most of the conversion automatically.

## What can this tool do?

### Retag Armor and Helmet Mods

Have a cosmetic mod that replaces one armor, but you want it to replace another armor instead?

HD2 Retagger can:

Automatically detect which Armor and/or Helmet the original mod replaces.

Display the detected equipment name.

Move the mod to another Armor or Helmet.

Retag Armor and Helmet together.

Select multiple targets and generate several combinations automatically.

Read your current Helldivers 2 game data for proper Unit/FileID remapping.

Keep the original mod untouched and export the converted version separately.

### Example

A mod currently replaces:

B-01 Tactical Armor

but you want it to replace:

CE-27 Ground Breaker

Load the original patch, select CE-27 Ground Breaker as the target, and run the retag process.

The tool will generate a new version of the mod for that armor.

## Update Old Mods After a Game Update

Helldivers 2 updates sometimes change internal Unit data.

Because of this, an older cosmetic mod may:

Stop loading.

Crash the game when selecting an armor.

Have missing body parts.

Become incompatible after a game update.

HD2 Retagger includes an Update Old Mod feature that attempts to rebuild outdated Unit information using your currently installed Helldivers 2 game files.

To update an old mod:

1. Load the original old mod.

2. Enable Use Current Game Culling (Experimental).

3. Click Update Old Mod.

4. Test the updated mod in game.

If you want to retag the updated mod afterward, disable the Current Game Culling option before retagging.

## What is “Current Game Culling”?

Helldivers 2 uses visibility/culling information to determine which parts of a model should be rendered.

After some game updates, old culling information may no longer match the current armor Unit.

The experimental Use Current Game Culling option attempts to replace outdated visibility information with the current game's version.

This can help with mods where:

Parts disappear at certain camera angles.

An armor crashes when loaded in the equipment menu.

Old Unit information is no longer compatible with the current game.

Because this feature is experimental, it should normally be used for updating broken old mods, not regular retagging.

## Basic Retagging Workflow

1. Select the mod's main `patch_0` file.

2. Select your `Helldivers 2\data` folder.

3. The tool detects the original Armor and Helmet automatically.

4. Select the new Armor and/or Helmet target.

5. Choose an output folder.

6. Click Retag Armor + Helmet.

7. Install and test the generated patch.

## Old Mod Update Workflow

1. Select the old mod's patch.

2. Select your current `Helldivers 2\data` folder.

3. Enable Use Current Game Culling (Experimental).

4. Click Update Old Mod.

5. Install and test the updated output.

For retagging afterward:

Turn Current Game Culling OFF → select your target equipment → run Retag.

Use the KR / EN buttons in the upper-right corner to switch languages instantly.

## Important

This tool cannot guarantee that every mod can be repaired or retagged perfectly.

Very complex mods may contain custom Unit structures, unusual mesh arrangements, removed game assets, shaders, materials, or other data that cannot be automatically converted.

Keep a backup of the original mod.

Export to a separate folder.

* Test the result in game before distributing it.

If a mod still crashes after using Update Old Mod, it may require a manual update by the original mod author.
