Clean Crosshairs

CLEAN CROSSHAIRS

The default third-person crosshairs in Helldivers 2 aren't very good for precise shooting. They are pretty large, not very sharp, and tend to obscure the target. This mod fixes those issues. The changes are minimal but make a big difference.

- The dot in the center of the screen that indicates the camera aimpoint is now smaller and sharper.

- The floating circle that indicates the weapon aimpoint is replaced with a crisp crosshair.

- The spinning triangles and circles around the reticle for the Senator, Sickle, Quasar Cannon, etc. are removed.

- The map pin icon is replaced with a crosshair that is properly centered on the marked point. (Not technically an aiming thing, but this was also driving me nuts).

That's it. I tried a number of different crosshair mods and found most of them were too elaborate or too complicated or made too many changes, so I made my own. This changes the game minimally and only for the better. I've used it myself for the last several months and hundreds of hours of play and I think it's perfect.

There is only one "bug:" The third-person lock-on indicators for the Spear, WASP, and Warrant, i.e. the little triangles that appear over the locked target, will disappear. This is because they use the same texture as the Sickle and Senator triangles, and there's no way to remove them for one weapon but not the other. The third-person lock-on circle will still turn green when locked, and the first-person reticle still shows the right symbols. Just use first-person if you like these guns and need to know exactly which target you're locking. I think this is an acceptable tradeoff.

INSTALLATION

Drop all three files into your/path/to/Helldivers 2/data/ folder. That's it. To uninstall, remove them. Alternately, you can use a mod manager like HD2 Arsenal. You will probably have to use a mod manager if you have any other mods installed, since most of them patch the same file that Clean Crosshairs does.

This mod will likely break with every major new Warbond, because Arrowhead annoyingly rearranges the textures every time to make space for the new gun and rank icons. You'll know this happened if all the HUD icons are jumbled up and glitched out. If you want to play the game before I update, just remove the files from /data/.

MEDIA

Note that the square charging reticle for the railgun and the "horizon line" on the Stalwart, Deadeye, etc are unchanged.

The crosshair is aligned perfectly with the barrel, while the laser is mounted below. That's why they don't line up. The crosshair is more true to your aimpoint than the laser.

The map pin icon changes for all pins on your map, of course. So much cleaner!
