📋 About This Mod

A Reshade preset to bring that moody black & white Noir atmosphere to Halo 3: ODST.

Have you ever wanted to experience Halo 3: ODST (or uh.. any Halo game for that matter) in wonderful monochrome moodiness? Want to wander the streets of New Mombasa as though it were a Noir film? Then this ReShade preset is for you!

To put it quite simply, this is a ReShade preset that makes the game Black & White. Granted, there's more to it than a simple monochrome filter, but thats the gist, to go for a moody Noir film aesthetic. Idea isn't anything that revolutionary, but it's neat enough. Being that it's a ReShade preset, that means it works with every game, not just ODST. This is with the exception of Halo 2: Classic (i.e. not Anniversary Graphics/Anniversary Multiplayer), as classic graphics have a messed up depth buffer, which will result in a messed up image. H2C is fine with depth effects disabled.

This preset should all things considered be light on performance. Granted there are some non-ReShade related performance issues in certain games (Such as H2A), but if you find the preset too taxing somehow you can always disable the depth effects (which can handily be done by pressing Numpad 1, or rebinding to a key of your choice)

Speaking of..

For the sake of visibility, I've opted to employ the use of depth effects. Namely, that of Marty McFly's RT, as well as a Rim Lighting shader. These only affect the gun, to keep it simple, with the idea being to prevent the weapon from blending into the dark areas of the level/screen. These are lightweight in performance, in part due to the small area they affect. I cannot include RT with the preset due to it only being officially available on McFly's patreon. (Though it wouldn't be too hard to find with a quick Google, if you want to put your eyepatches on).

However, the preset is of course still playable without the effects, just nicer with them on. Here's a comparison:

RT & Rim Lighting On
Only Rim Lighting On
No Depth Effects

As you can see, with RT & Rim Lighting on, the gun is much more visible. To compare the last two I'd recommend zooming in/opening the image in a new tab, as the small image size of the description box may not do it justice. The Rim Light shader does make the silhouette of the gun more distinct.

But either way almost all guns have lights on them so you'll still be able to tell which is which, so choose your preference on having it on or not.

(Note: Make sure to rename your RT shader to quint_RT.fx, as some versions may have a different name, and won't be recognized by the preset)
