Lara Croft nació el 14 de febrero de 1968 y se crió en el mundo de la aristocracia, siendo hija de Lord Henshingly Croft, Conde de Abbingdon, y de Amelia Croft. Desde los 3 hasta los 11 años recibió clases particulares, para luego asistir hasta los 16 a la Escuela Superior de Niñas de Wimbledon. Es allí donde asistió una vez a una conferencia de un renombrado arqueólogo llamado Werner Von Croy, el cual despertó su interés por la arqueología.
