Getting Started Using ReZen: Modding Grounded 2 Using UAssetGUI

The sole purpose and reason I developed this was that it was exhausting going back and forth copying/pasting commands in cmd prompt, doing everything manually, and often finding myself overwhelmed and messing up from anxiety. I mainly made this for me, to make my workflow more efficient, faster, easier, and more convenient, but I don’t believe in gatekeeping—so here I am distributing it publicly because sharing is caring lol. This uses a simple GUI with backend code that does the legwork you no longer have to do when extracting Zen assets or convert it to mod files with retoc.exe and it’s just buttons and clicks away. No more time-consuming steps, no more frustration, no more anxiety from copying and pasting commands—just ease and efficiency.

ReZen is just a GUI wrapper for retoc.exe, which works with Unreal Engine’s IoStore/Zen containers .utoc/.ucas/.pak. That format is used by lots of UE4. 26+ and UE5 games, not just Grounded 2. As long as the game uses Zen/IoStore and retoc supports its version, you can point ReZen at that game’s Paks folder and use it the same way (Unpak ➜ edit ➜ Pak) or "re-pak" them into mod files which are .utoc/.ucas/.pak.

DISCLAIMER 2: I’m NOT an expert, just a guy who enjoys tinkering with game files and wanted to share the simple workflow that works for me. If you want to mod Grounded 2 with UAssetGUI (which works for both gamepass and steam), here’s a straightforward 4 step-by-step process.

DISCLAIMER 3: ReZen NOT a malicious virus. It is a small Python app bundled with PyInstaller. Some antivirus tools flag “one-file” PyInstaller apps by heuristic (they unpack to a temp folder and use a tiny bootstrapper). It’s a common false positive, not malware. ReZen doesn’t install services or touch the registry—it just runs retoc.exe

with the paths you choose and writes to the folders you select.

📋 REQUIREMENTS:

- Must have the steam version for dumping

- Download Retoc.exe

- Download UAssetGUI

- Download ReZen tool

1️⃣ DUMP & CONVERT INTO GROUNDED 2 ASSETS

Grounded 2 uses Zen assets (.utoc, .ucas), which must be converted into .uasset + .uexp files before UAssetGUI can view/edit them. To do this, simply download my ReZen tool. Once you have opened ReZen, Set the "Game Paks Folder" path where the "Unpak Game Files (Zen → Legacy)" section is, to C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Grounded2/Augusta/Content/Paks

and your Output dir to wherever you'd like, then click Run.

2️⃣ MAKE A BACK-UP

Before making edits, always make it a practice to create a backup copy or .zip of your extracted files.

That way if something breaks (and it/you will 😅), you can easily restore from backup instead of re-dumping everything.

3️⃣ EDIT WITH UASSETGUI

Now you can open those .uasset/.uexp files from your dumped Grounded 2 assets in UAssetGUI to make your edits.
