Steyr ACR [1035.2]

The Steyr ACR was an Austrian prototype bullpup rifle developed for the U. S. military's Advanced Combat Rifle trials. It was chambered for proprietary 5. 56mm flechette ammunition housed in polymer sabots. It featured a smoothbore barrel, rotating bolt, and selectable semi-automatic and burst fire modes, using hypervelocity dart projectiles to reduce recoil impulse, flatten trajectory, and improve hit probability. Despite its lightweight synthetic construction and advanced sighting system, the design was ultimately rejected due to ammunition complexity, barrel wear concerns, and only marginal performance gains over conventional rifles.
