📋 About This Mod

Replaces the Magic Class with Warlock. Warlocks are magic warriors, trained in the use of arcane staffs. They prefer melee over ranged combat.

Feature List

1) All Rings replaced by Staffs

All "Divine Rings" are replaced by magic staffs. Magic staffs deal magical melee damage (bypassing armor). They also allow the user to cast ranged offensive spells but at a higher cost.

2) Primary/Secondary magic attacks swapped so that secondary attack is ranged and primary is (typically) melee.

3) Both Magic Melee and Magic Ranged Attack do the same magic damage.

4) Intelligent Primary Attack

Primary attack applies magic melee, non-magic melee or magic ranged attack based on target distance and player mana pool. (You can spam the attack button and feel bad-ass).

5) Secondary Attack (LEFT CTRL by default) allows forced ranged attack, but at twice the mana cost.

6) Skilltree names and descriptions updated to reflect the perspective that the player's magic is Arcane and not Divine.

Requirements

This mod requires Mod Slot Support Version 3. 01 or newer to inject the name and description changes into the game files. If you have an older version of Mod Slot Support (3. 0 or older), it will not work. So make sure your Mod Slot Support is up to date before installing this mod.

Details

When I played GreedFall, I wanted to play a Mage/Fighter/Thief, someone who was versatile enough to basically play the game solo if need be, even if specialized companions were still preferred. This is my favorite archetype.

I found the default Mage class powerful enough to play solo as a Mage/Thief, but the combat felt boring. I just ran around freezing enemies and shooting magic arrows. So I made this class to make combat a bit more exciting for users wishing to play as a mage.

The warlock prefers to blink into the middle of combat and attack/stun the enemies around them. Much more hands on than your typical ranged mage.

To accomplish this I:

  • []Updated the rings so that they use a staff model

[]Updated the staffs so that they grant 25% more magic damage per hit

[]Updated magic attacks so that both ranged/melee do the same damage.

[]Update ranged attack to consume 25% more mana to compensate for

    additional damage

[]Update melee attack to consume 25% less mana to encourage melee attacks

    over ranged attacks.

[]Swapped the primary/secondary attacks so that magic melee is the new primary/default.

[]Updated the animations so that the player looks bad-ass swinging their staff around.

[]Added added some condition logic to the primary attack. If a target is far away and it makes sense because you have plenty of mana, the player will automatically shoot a Magic Blast even when you hit the primary attack. This makes it a bit easier to just spam the attack button and watch the Protagonist kick everyone's ass.

[]Updated the class name, spell names and descriptions to reflect the ide  that a warlock's power comes from arcane magic accessed and channeled through the staff. (Not some divine entity).

Note that the fire rate of both melee and ranged attacks is still high.

So while I balanced additional damage with additional mana cost, overall

you can do more damage per second, but you burn through your mana faster

if you choose to play it safe with ranged attacks.

    Install

    1) If you do not already have it, get 7-zip : www. 7-zip.org

    * Do not use WinRar to open/extract . 7z files. It can corrupt them.

    2) Once 7-zip is installed, open the . 7z file. Typically you need only double click the file:

    Warlock_v1_00. 7z

    3) The 7-zip window will show 1 file:

    4) Extract the folder to your Greedfall installation folder.

For example, if you are using steam, you might find it here:

    Computer -> C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\GreedFall

    5) If you previously had Warlock installed, you will be prompted to confirm file overwrite. Click to each file as it comes up

If you did not have Warlock previously, skip this step.

    6) Within the directory datalocal, run the file: updatemods.exe. This will update the game descriptions to reflect the warlock class.

If you do not run updatemods.exe, the mod will still work fine, (You will still use a
