SA5M2 Trigon

The SA5 Trigon is a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun of the Khertland army with development dating back to May 4th. Initial prototypes did not meet performance requirements causing the development to drag on with engineers trying to iron out the issues. An alternative complementary design known as the SA6 was developed. These two ended up competing for the SPAAG procurement contract instead as the SA6 was also unsatisfactory. Eventually, the SA5 Trigon won out and was adopted in to service. The platform is equipped with a 57mm (114mm actual) autocannon with a rate of fire of 260 rounds per minute. It is a highly potent weapon however in a relatively unarmored chassis. This resulted in the development of the SA7 Iron Guardian to provide protection against enemy missiles, particularly anti-radiation missiles. The Trigon is crewed by three people. The turret is entirely automated and the gunner controls it from the front hull next to the driver. The commander sits inside the turret for greater visibility and have easy access should something go wrong with the weapon system. The gun have 306 rounds for 70 seconds of firing time before needing to reload. Downtime is 30 seconds before the SPAAG can fire again. Although it is well armed and can make short work of light ground vehicles, due to its lack of protection, it rarely can face off against enemy armor. Another vehicle must attract fire for the Trigon to truly shine. The Khertland Airforce has adopted the Trigon along with the Altai and Iron Guardian for use by its Air Defense Force tasked to providing direct security and ground-based air defense for its key infrastructure like radar sites and airfields.
