📋 About This Mod
Horizon Overhaul
Horizon Overhaul is a multi-system visual and physics overhaul for Forza Horizon 6. It reworks the core rendering, particle, audio and open-world systems to deliver a more realistic and cinematic feel, without touching gameplay balance and with no noticeable impact on FPS.
RAIN & SNOW PARTICLE SYSTEM
The most extensive changes are in the rain and snow VFX pipeline. Every camera viewpoint is individually tuned. Exterior and third person cameras get more raindrop spawns, bigger average drop size and longer particle lifetime for stronger streaks at speed. Interior and cockpit views densify drop distribution on the side windows and windshield, with puddle drops tuned separately for wet road reflections. Hood, bumper, cockpit and exterior lens effects rework water and snow accumulation on the camera, with adjusted emission curves, drying delay, water change speed and center mask distance so it feels more organic. Raindrops are smaller so they no longer look like pimples on the car body. Heavy rain no longer loses its raindrops every few seconds. Snow is fully separated from rain, with its own particle size, gravity, edge spawn velocity and acceleration values so it behaves distinctly on every surface.
SKY & VOLUMETRIC CLOUDS
Cloud density is increased by about 1. 2x, with deeper and richer cloud cores plus warmer, less-blue thin clouds for a more natural look, and subtle warm lifts on cloud tops. Cloudy weather states now layer two dense cloud texture sets for fuller, more volumetric skies, and all six storm cloudscapes received complementary second wraps. Transitions between sunny, cloudy and stormy states fade smoothly between cloud layers.
Ocean water has stronger swell and chop from increased wind speed and Phillips spectrum amplitude for more characterful open-water motion. Perlin normal-octave intensity is raised across all 30 season blocks with tighter octave widths for sharper, more visible surface ripples. Fine surface noise is amplified for livelier detail, and a slightly turbid green sediment tint makes open water read as natural instead of pool-blue.
LENS FLARES
Lens flare presets are overhauled, including anamorphic, DSLR and broadcast styles with tuned glow layers, sunburst ring with gradient color and modulation frequency, multiple streak layers at custom rotation angles and warm gold-and-amber grading on the primary glow. Flare elements are rendered at much higher detail for cleaner, sharper flares. The dynamic activation range of the flare layers has been widened, so the individual glow, streak and iris layers activate and stay visible across a larger distance and brightness window instead of cutting off early. Sun glare intensity is reduced for more comfortable daylight scenes. The light hit on the chase camera is intentional, simulating how a real camera lens reacts to direct sunlight.
BACKFIRE REWORK
Exhaust backfire effects are reworked for a richer, more realistic result, with retextured exhaust flame swatches and tuned backfire visuals. On lighter setups, the optional Less Backfire file is available.
OPEN WORLD AMBIENT FX
Biome-specific ambient particles, such as desert blown sand, jungle falling leaves and farmland dust, are refined with accurate surface-stop rules so they no longer appear incorrectly on asphalt or concrete.
CAR SECONDARY MOTION & SHAKE
The car body, driver and cameras shake based on speed, G-forces, RPM and terrain. Shake bone responses to lateral G, longitudinal acceleration and vertical bumps are adjusted for more physical feedback, with the high-speed shake curve softened above 150 mph. Steering wheel, wipers, mirrors, antenna, exhaust tips and wing flap bones have individually tuned rotation lag and range limits. Wheel rim blur transitions to the blurred state more naturally, close to how it looks in real life at speed, so no separate wheel blur mod is needed.
TIRE & SURFACE PHYSICS FX
Wheel rotation is tuned against real-world reference data across all surface types, covering spin rates, slip angles and surface grip. Smoke threshold per tire temperature is retained with adjusted density, and dirt, sand and gravel dust trails are tuned per biome with adjusted colors. Surface water spray threshold is adjusted for wet asphalt, and drifting tire smoke sits closer to vanilla intensity, while dust remains persistent by design. The backfire and particle density are tunable via the optional files.

It's for players wanting cinematic realism without gameplay changes. Stands out for its detailed, camera-specific tuning and anamorphic lens flare presets, with 40 endorsements and 5,928 downloads.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Comprehensive package: rain/snow, lens flares, ambient FX, and car motion all in one visual overhaul.
- Per-camera tuning means cockpit, hood, bumper, and exterior views all feel distinct in bad weather.
- Decent community traction with 40 endorsements and nearly 6k downloads, updated August 2026.
⚠️ Cons
- Increased particle counts and dense lens effects will tank FPS on mid-range GPUs, especially in heavy rain/snow.
- Global rendering changes risk conflicts with other visual mods or ReShade presets.
- Low endorsement rate (40 out of 5,928 downloads) suggests many users tried it but didn't stick with it.
For Forza Horizon 6 players who want a more cinematic, realistic driving experience, especially in rain and snow, without altering gameplay or car balance. Ideal for those willing to trade some FPS for visual fidelity and comfortable troubleshooting conflicts with other graphics mods. Skip if you're on a lower-end PC or only care about performance.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Launch Forza Horizon 6 in offline/solo mode after installing visual mods to avoid anti-cheat flags in online play.
- Disable ReShade or other graphics injectors before testing Horizon Overhaul, since both hook into rendering.
- Test in a rainy or snowy night race first to gauge the FPS hit before doing a long session.
