📋 About This Mod
This mod restores enemy sprites to their darker, less bright, taller FF Origins (PlayStation) versions, including Bestiary sprites.
The rerelease of the first Final Fantasy for the PlayStation, as part of the Final Fantasy Origins collection, is one with a lot of nostalgia for many people. Modders have made some great strides at restoring the content and feel of that release to the Pixel Remaster: randyrobbinsmusic's Origins Normal Mode Rebalancing restores Origins' gameplay balance, Alice Grimaude's Cornelia Sans font restores the look of Origins' text, and Fugsnarf's PS1-PSP Origins Soundtrack restores Origins' music.
There are several Origins-based visual mods as well. Gravrain's FFPR Visual Revamp brings most graphics much closer to those of Origins, and Shiryu's Chaos and Consistency restores boss sprites to their Origins versions. However, neither Gravrain's nor Shiryu's mods (great as they are!) fully and accurately restore monsters to their Origins versions. Gravrain's mod draws on the WonderSwan Color version as well as Origins, and while it restores Origins colors to enemies, the sprites seem to be the WonderSwan/Pixel Remaster/Dawn of Souls versions rather than the taller Origins versions. Shiryu's mod accurately restores the Origins sprites, but only for the Four Fiends.
Ideally, FFPR modding will eventually be to the point that mod users can easily make the Pixel Remaster into a facsimile of any of the previous versions, with as little or as much additional content as you might want and as accurate (or not!) as you want it. Right now we can get pretty close to making PR into Origins thanks to the mods I've mentioned, but the enemy sprites are still slightly off, so this is my attempt to add the option for truly Origins-accurate enemies.
This mod restores all enemy sprites to their Origins versions, including the slightly taller/elongated enemy sprites and the darker/less saturated coloring. It also changes the Bestiary thumbnail sprites to match (which appear only when you are on the Bestiary map and click on a dungeon, but are included for completion and consistency). I still need to play through to ensure that enemy sprites are positioned correctly in battle - most of them have changed size to some larger or smaller extent - so this mod is still a work in progress, but the sprites at least are essentially done!
Installation instructions: This mod requires Magicite, so you will want to install that first. (I recommend using Moogle Mod Manager to do that, as it makes it incredibly simple!) Once that's done, unzip this mod's file into your StreamingAssets folder; you should end up with an "Origins Enemy Sprites" folder under your Magicite folder.
Other mods in screenshots: All the screenshots for this mod were made using the Cornelia Sans font (linked above), and the final screenshot was made also using FFPR Visual Revamp (linked above) and a slightly modified version of the CRT part of FiveFiveFiver's LCD and CRT Presets for Reshade.
As far as I can tell, this mod works with the 1. 1. 0 update (which added previously console-only PR features into the PC version). If you run into any issues with it, please let me know!
