More Faithful English Translation with Japanese Dual Subtitles

This mod is intended to be used with the Japanese Dub of the game.

As a Japanese language student, one of my study plans includes immersion by consuming content in Japanese.

That includes videos, news, books, magazines, and video games.

Playing games in the original Japanese languages helps with pattern recognition for grammar as well as recognition for kanji and words.

Two extremely beneficial mods for learning that have already been created are the Dual-subtitle Mod by MatyaModding and the

More Faithful English Translation for Japanese Dub Mod by not3d.

Unfortunately both of them modify the same .uasset files in order to create the mod and therefore are incompatible when run together.

The good part about these two mods are that they are, at its core, text modification of the original subtitles and are relatively easy to manipulate with the tools below.

Tools used for this mod are:

• []FModel for extracting the original JP subtitle .uasset files

  []not3d's translation tools for the translated text files and packing them as .uassets

  []ff7r-text-tool for combining the the .uasset subtitle files into a single .uasset file

  []Matyamodding's UnrealReZen for repacking the .uasset files

  I have not finished the game yet so I avoided reading too far into the .uasset files to validate if every line matches, but a quick look at the top and bottom of the subtitle files in FModel seems to check out.

  I likely won't make any updates to this mod as I am trying to finish the game, but feel free to use the same methods above if there are any updates to not3d's AI Translation.

  KNOWN BUGS:

  1) As I am playing, I noticed some of the field combat challenges will have doubled Japanese subtitles. Slightly annoying since MAI already talks a lot, but I don't really pay attention to what she says while I'm doing those challenges anyway.

  2) Some dialogue in cutscenes are following the English language, so sometimes if you skip the Japanese dialogue it will wait til the next English subs come up. The JP subs will still be under the ENG subs for that dialogue.
