To counter Goguryeo's massive expansion, Baekje and Silla joined forces to form the Naje Alliance. However, Silla's betrayal ultimately led to the collapse of the alliance. In return, Baekje lost the Han River basin and fell into decline. Conversely, Silla prospered. It conquered Daegaya, subjugated even the Usan Kingdom in the East Sea, repelled the southward-moving Goguryeo forces, and even launched a northward advance. This momentum reached Hamgyeong Province, where it achieved the feat of erecting the Jinheung King Sunsu Monument. However, the day of rest for swords and shields did not come. The Sui Dynasty, having seized continental hegemony, finally raised a vast army, intent on subduing the eastern powerhouse, Goguryeo. The battlefields of the Korean Peninsula were once again engulfed in flames, marking the prelude to the ensuing, epic conflict.
