📋 About This Mod
This mod is designed as a spiritual successor of Concealed Armors mod. It improves compatibility with dynamic armor patching via F4SE plugin, extends support for headgear (with working hair) and adds new features like holotape to toggle visibility on the go.
The new Concealed Armors Technology System holotape should be added to your inventory upon loading into the Commonwealth for the first time after installing this mod. Upon loading the CATS software holotape, you will have a choice to toggle visibility of currently equipped armor items.
Features:
• Hide most of vanilla and DLC armors, helmets, hats with crafting or a new holotape.
• Partial support for glasses, which can be concealed in armor workbench.
• Works on player and NPCs.
• Low chance for conflicts via dynamic patching with F4SE plugin.
• Headgear support can be disabled by modifying Setup.json file.
Limitations:
Slick holotape, or concealed headgear with visible hair, unfortunately required a few hacks and tricks to improve compatibility and stability. As such, there are a few limitations this mod has.
• Hair seldomly might show / hide with half a sec lag.
• Holotape will allow to hide / show armor piece only when you have exactly 1 item of this type in the inventory.
Compatibility:
• Made for and tested primarily on Anniversary Edition update.
• Experimental OG version available.
• Not compatible with any other mod like this or Concealed Armors.
• Not compatible with mods adding items using bipped slot 58.
If Concealed Armors will be detected, the mod will refuse to initialize.
Custom armors:
Adding support for (not overly complicated) armors should be as easy as making a simple plugin containing few form lists, and adding new json files into directory F4SE/Plugins/CatsArmor/Armor or F4SE/Plugins/CatsArmor/Headgear. Check the setup for vanilla items for inspiration.
Disclaimer:
This is a first release of an experimental mod. Smaller issues might happen, please report them and I will try to investigate them. This mod should be "safe" to uninstall mid game. It is not advised, such actions are never really safe, but implementation doesn't have any outstanding, unsafe parts.
Bug reporting:
If you want to report a bug, then please include files f4se.log and CatsArmorPlugin.log from directory C:\Users\{username}\Documents\My Games\Fallout4\F4SE. If you don't have any of the files - mention it. Bug reports without log files (or a mention that files are missing)
True Hidden Armors and Helmets adds a holotape to hide armor, helmets, and hats in Fallout 4. It uses dynamic patching to minimize mod conflicts, serving as a spiritual successor to Concealed Armors. With 55 endorsements and recent updates, it's a niche utility for players wanting visual customization without patch headaches.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Dynamic patching means fewer conflicts with your other armor mods—no more manual patch hell.
- Holotape approach is super convenient; toggle visibility in-game without console commands.
- Spiritual successor to Concealed Armors, so it builds on a proven concept with improvements.
⚠️ Cons
- Small but dedicated following (55 endorsements) suggests it's not widely tested across all setups.
- As a utility mod, it doesn't add new content—just hides existing gear, so if you want new armor, look elsewhere.
- Potential compatibility risk with mods that alter holotapes or the armor visibility system, though dynamic patching helps.
For Fallout 4 players who want to hide bulky helmets or mismatched armor pieces for screenshots or roleplay without breaking their load order. Also great for those who used Concealed Armors and want a more modern, conflict-free alternative. Skip if you're looking for new armor content—this is purely a visibility toggle.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since it uses dynamic patching, place it near the end of your load order to let it patch other mods effectively.
- Use the holotape in your inventory to access the hide options—no need to craft or find it in the world.
- If you're on PC, test with your most-used armor mods to ensure the dynamic patching works as advertised.
