Search for the main quest

We all know that When Freedom Calls is a poorly designed quest. It gives the player access to Power Armor and a Minigun, then throws them into a fight with one of the toughest enemies in the game — all within the first 30 minutes. On top of that, it railroads you onto a fixed path straight to Diamond City.

I need to believe that a man who just lost his son is running around setting up settlements or building beds — he should be lost, desperate, and searching for answers. This mod is an attempt to fix that.

Since I am limited by the amount of dialogue Mama Murphy has in the game, I opted for bare-bones conversations with her. Sometimes, I even changed all four player response options to the same thing because that is the limit of available voice lines. The quest still works, but that’s the limit.

Wasteland Survival Guide #5 no longer adds Diamond City to your map. Instead, it grants bonus XP for discovering new locations—encouraging exploration rather than railroading the player.🎯 Gameplay Philosophy:
