📋 About This Mod

EDIT: Turns out I didn't quite catch ALL the whines, though this mod, in its current form, removes most of it. There's still a slight, quick whine when idling. I have to track it down, and will update this mod and this edit when it's done

Thanks to LiquidBronze for walking me through this, and supplying a blank audio file in his "No More cash Register Sound" mod

This file replaces Dogmeat's constant whining noises to a blank audio file, thus making no sound. The voice (bark?) dog-actor must have been really convincing, because it triggers my dogs like crazy. Got really annoyed with it, but I liked having the dog.

Go to: \Documents\My Games\Fallout4 open Fallout4.ini

Find sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\ edit it to  sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\, sound\

Drop the file into \Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data

🤖 AI-enhanced — based on mod data

This mod replaces Dogmeat's whining audio with a blank file, eliminating most of his constant whining in Fallout 4. It requires a manual INI edit and file placement, and is best for players who find the whining annoying but still want Dogmeat as a companion. Note that a slight idle whine remains.

✨ Key Features

Replaces Dogmeat's whining audio with a blank file to remove most whining sounds
Requires editing Fallout4.ini to add 'sound\' to sResourceDataDirsFinal
Simple manual installation: drop the file into the Data folder
Compatible with the 'No More cash Register Sound' mod by LiquidBronze, which provided the blank audio file

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Huge community approval (3,123 endorsements) and over half a million downloads
  • Directly addresses a common annoyance—Dogmeat's whining—without removing the dog
  • Simple two-step setup: edit one INI line and drop a file

⚠️ Cons

  • Doesn't remove all whines—a slight idle whine remains, as the author notes
  • Requires manual INI editing, which can be intimidating for modding newcomers
  • May conflict with other audio mods that modify Dogmeat's sounds or the sound directory
🎯 Is This For You?
For Fallout 4 players who love having Dogmeat as a companion but can't stand his constant whining. If you're a purist who wants zero whining, this mod falls short—but if you just want most of it gone, it's a solid fix. Skip if you don't use Dogmeat or don't mind the whines.
📦 Install:Medium· 5-10 minutes

💡 Beginner Tips

  • Make sure to edit Fallout4.ini exactly as described—add 'sound\' to the sResourceDataDirsFinal line, and save the file before launching the game.
  • Place the mod file in your Fallout 4 Data folder (usually at Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data).
  • If you use a mod manager, you can still manually install this—just follow the steps and don't forget the INI edit.
