📋 About This Mod

Overview: In the vanilla game, all spawned human NPCs use the same skin texture and are the same height.  The result, especially for enemies, is that the Wasteland is mostly populated by clones of a small group of people.  It must be that radiation has rendered most Wastelanders sterile, and the only way the population survives is by cloning.  Bethesda forgot to include that in the backstory though.

More Varied Body Shapes and Skins seeks to partially address this problem.  It randomizes the height and weight for most spawned human NPCs and placed human corpses. This includes the Brotherhood of Steel, Children of Atom, Gunners, Minutemen, Raiders, Railroad agents, Scavengers, security guards, settlers, super mutants, and triggermen.  Vanilla height for all NPCs is 1. 0.  With this mod, male spawned NPCs will range from 0. 95 to 1. 05 in height.  Females will range from 0. 9 to 1. 0 in height.  The females will now, on average, be shorter than the males, as in real life.

The generic version is usable with any body (vanilla, CBBE, Jane Bod, Wonder Body, whatever).  It only adds the height and weight randomization, so your default body type and skin textures will be retained.

The CBBE version adds several different skin textures to spawned raiders, gunners, and settlers in addition to the height and weight randomization.  Only female skin textures are currently added.  You will need CBBE installed to use it correctly.  Without CBBE, you will get scrambled textures on the spawned female NPCs.  The skin textures are mainly nude, so stick with the generic version if you are underage or if that is not your preference.

More Varied Creature Shapes randomizes the height of the spawned animals and insects of the Commonwealth.  It also makes higher leveled versions of creatures larger than their lower leveled counterparts.  This means that not only will the Deathclaw that you run into at level 91 have a different texture and name than the one you ran into at level 10, as in vanilla, but it will also be larger.

Limitations, issues, and incompatibilities: These mods currently only make changes to NPCs and creatures from the base game.  I do not have any of the DLCs yet, so I won't be adding DLC patches until I get a good deal on the Season Pass.

The height changes may cause issues with animations where the NPCs interact with objects in the environment.  For example, a shorter-than-average sitting NPC may sink slightly into the chair, while a taller-than-average one may float slightly above it.  I believe these issues will be minor in comparison to the improved variety that the mods provide, but further testing is needed.

💡 Beginner Tips

  • If you use the CBBE version, make sure you have the CBBE mod installed first and load this mod after it in your load order.
  • This mod affects spawned NPCs only, so existing NPCs in your save won't change until they respawn or you start a new game.
  • Use a mod manager like Vortex or NMM to install and manage this mod to avoid overwriting other texture mods.
