📋 About This Mod

This is just a small mod to reduce the cartoony behavior of the pain train's knockdown effect while keeping the effect satisfying. I reduced the pain train's push multiplier from 9x to 5x, which is the threshold I found for balancing realism and fun.

This mod does not modify any ragdoll weight or force values, so ragdolls will still float through the air a little bit instead of dropping to the ground immediately.

It is highly recommended you use this mod with my other mod, Ragdoll Collision. This will allow you to physically push your target instead of clipping through them. I am unsure what effects this might have on lower-end systems, so I've included the capability as a separate mod.

Below is a short video demonstrating the effects of the mod with my Ragdoll Collision mod enabled as well: qul8U8D8xDA

I apologize for Bethesda's terrible ragdoll physics for the time being. Hopefully it won't be long before someone edits the weight and friction of each actor's skeleton.nif mesh. Fortunately, when this becomes a reality, this mod will not confict with it in any way!

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Community-approved with 339 endorsements and 7,440 downloads
  • Simple tweak that addresses a common balance complaint
  • Lightweight and likely compatible with most load orders

⚠️ Cons

  • Only affects Pain Train, so it's a very narrow change
  • May not be updated for newer game versions (last updated 2015)
  • Could conflict with other perk overhaul mods that modify Pain Train
🎯 Is This For You?
For Fallout 4 players who use the Pain Train perk but find the knockdown effect too game-breaking. If you're tired of enemies flying across the room and want a more grounded feel, this is for you. Skip if you never use Power Armor or if you prefer over-the-top physics.
