📋 About This Mod
Description
Raider gangs and super mutant packs have taken to ambushing Minuteman patrols escorting settlers to safety, dragging the survivors back to their camps in ropes. Clear a camp and you may find Minutemen and the settlers they were protecting held captive. Set them free for an XP bonus -- and if you have a home for them, invite them to join one of your settlements. The Commonwealth needs every hand it can get.
Captives spawn dynamically at enemy camps via the game's Story Manager, so it touches no vanilla records, adds no worldspace edits, and is compatible with just about everything. The plugin requires only the base game and is ESL-flagged, so it won't consume a regular load-order slot.
Installation instructions
Install with a mod manager (Mod Organizer 2 or Vortex) and enable the plugin. Safe to install mid-playthrough. To uninstall, free or leave any active captives first, then remove the mod, but keep in mind that your settlements will lose any rescued captives owned by this mod.
Main features
-
[]Rescue gameplay. Raider and super mutant camps have a chance to hold a captive group -- one captured Minuteman and the settlers they were escorting, bound and huddled together.[/]
[]Free the whole group in one interaction. Talk to any captive to release the entire group, then choose what to do with each person: send them on their way, recruit them to a settlement, or trade.[/]
[]XP reward for each person you free.[/]
[]Captive alerts and quest markers -- one marker per group over its Minuteman, toggleable in MCM. Track the quest in your Pip-Boy Miscellaneous tab to show them.[/]
[]Optional hotkey (via MCM) to free the captive group you're standing next to. Useful in the middle of a battle -- they will grab any nearby weapons and join the fight on your side.[/]
[]Lightweight. ESL-flagged, fully voiced using original game dialogue, touches no vanilla records.[/]
[]Scenic encounters -- you can occasionally encounter an escorted group of settlers. They can't all be captured, right? You can't recruit the ones that are out roaming in the world, since they already have a place they are going to.[/]
[]New in version 4. 0: radiant rescue quests. Be an even bigger hero and help out a kid whose parents got captured. After the family is reunited, you can invite them to join your settlement.[/]
[]Configurable via MCM: enable/disable the mod, chance a camp is holding captives, chance a captive is male/female, captive protection level (None / Protected / Essential), show captive markers, enable group encounters, and the "free nearby captives" hotkey.[/]
Requirements
-
[]Fallout 4 — no DLC required.[/]
[]Optional: Mod Configuration Menu (MCM) for settings, the markers toggle, and the free-nearby hotkey. Without MCM everything still works at default settings; you just lose the menu and the hotkey and can't control the frequency of encounters or radiant quests.[/]
[]Optional: Diverse Child Settlers, if available, will provide a much more robust pool of child faces than vanilla.[/]
Shout outs
This mod is a respectful re-theme of Commonwealth Captives by EgoBallistic (hosted on the LL site). All of the original spawning, AI, and quest framework is their excellent work -- this version re-skins it into a "PG-themed" lore-friendly Minutemen rescue mod with no adult content or mod dependencies. Huge thanks to EgoBallistic for the original, for granting permission to publish this re-theme, and for making something worth building on.
Adds dynamic rescue encounters to Fallout 4: raider and super mutant camps can hold captured Minutemen and settlers. Free them for XP, recruit them to settlements, or trade. Uses the Story Manager with no vanilla record edits, is ESL-flagged, fully voiced with original dialogue, and includes MCM toggles. For settlement builders and Minutemen roleplayers.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Community-approved rescue mechanic with 133 endorsements and nearly 4k downloads—people actually like this.
- Zero vanilla record edits and ESL-flagged, so it won't bloat your load order or conflict with anything.
- Fully voiced using vanilla dialogue, so it feels like part of the base game.
⚠️ Cons
- Uninstalling the mod strips any rescued captives from your settlements, so they're gone if you remove it.
- Captives are limited to raider and super mutant camps—no rescue content for Gunners, Children of Atom, or DLC enemies.
- The MCM options assume you have a mod configuration framework set up—not built into the base game.
For Fallout 4 Minutemen generals who want more dynamic rescue encounters and settlement recruitment. For players who want immersive, lore-friendly additions that don't touch vanilla records. Skip if you want new quests or custom-voiced content—this reuses existing dialogue.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Use a mod manager like Vortex or MO2; the plugin is ESL-flagged so it won't take a regular load order slot.
- If you want the hotkey or marker toggles, install Mod Configuration Menu and its requirements before enabling this mod.
- Free captives during combat to have them grab weapons and fight alongside you—great for clearing camps.
