LASER BOLT FX: FALLOUT 4 EDITION
Description In Fallout 1, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics, Laser weapons were represented visually as "blaster" style weapons. Much like Star Wars "Lasers" they were projectiles rather than beams. Personally I much preferred this visual style, and so I endeavoured to add this to my current Fallout experience, first in my mod for NewVegas, and now with this mod for Fallout 4.
This mod changes all the standard red laser beams, and all of the institute's blue laser beams to bolt projectiles. No changes have been made to any of the weapons stats, this is, for now, a purely visual enhancement.
Installation
(the steps listed below assume you have already made your install "mod ready", If you havent then stop reading this and sort it out!)
1. Download the main file. This will be the FOMOD installer, dont download the manual install file unless you know what you are doing.
2. Install with NMM, or a mod manager of your choice. Again, if you want to install manually Im going to assume you are knowledgeable enough to know what you are doing.
3. Activate all esp's installed by this mod.
4. Play!
Compatability/Known Issues
Apparently by changing the beams to projectiles it makes laser weapons no longer register with the "Penetrator" perk, and this is currently unfixable as its an engine issue with non hitscan projectiles.
For some reason I cant figure out the bolts dont work with the ceiling laser turrets, the projectile spawns above the turret and collides with the ceiling it is mounted to. I dont know how to fix this, so for the time being I have edited all the ceiling turrets so they will use vanilla laser beams. This will be implemented as of v1. 1
Apart from that it should be compatible with anything that doesn't alter the "projectile" records for laser weapons.
Big thanks to Tyrannicon for featuring this mod on his youtube series.
Big thanks to MxR
Laser Bolt FX replaces Fallout 4's laser weapon beams with flashy, Hollywood-style bolts, giving a Star Wars or Terminator 2 vibe. A popular visual overhaul with over 10,000 endorsements, last updated in 2016.
✨ Key Features
📊 Pros & Cons
✅ Pros
- Huge community love with 10,248 endorsements and 439k downloads
- Gives laser weapons a cool, cinematic feel that stands out
- Lightweight visual tweak that doesn't mess with gameplay
⚠️ Cons
- Last updated in 2016, so might not play nice with newer DLC or mods
- Only changes laser visuals—if you want more variety, this is a one-trick pony
For Fallout 4 players who want their laser guns to feel like they're straight out of a sci-fi movie. If you're into visual overhauls that add flair without changing gameplay, this is for you. Skip if you're looking for gameplay changes or if you're on a mod setup that's sensitive to old mods.
💡 Beginner Tips
- Since it's a simple replacer, just drop the files into your Data folder or use a mod manager—no load order headaches.
- If you're using other laser weapon mods, test this one after them to see if it conflicts.
- Check the mod's comments section for any user-reported compatibility notes with DLC or other popular mods.
