📋 About This Mod

We are told throughout the game that the Institute is technologically superior. However, their apparently advanced weapons are worse than the default laser gun. This is weird. This mod aims to address that.

I've added three new Institute weapons: MK2 and MK3 variants of the Institute gun, along with a new unique weapon. It also changes the levelled lists of some synth NPCs to equip higher level synths with these weapons. The goal is to better sell the technological prowess of the Institute and make the synths a bit more threatening, as they are comically weak in the vanilla game. This means that, for once, a player may occasionally decide that using Institute weapons is worth it over a laser. The MK2 is designed to be slightly better than the vanilla laser gun, while the MK3 is designed to compete with plasma.

There is also a legendary weapon, but I won't be spoiling that one.

🤖 AI-enhanced — based on mod data

Institute Weapons Tweaks rebalances the Institute's energy weapons by adding MK2 and MK3 versions with increased power. This addresses the lore inconsistency where the most advanced faction has weak weapons. A straightforward weapon overhaul for Fallout 4 players who want more viable Institute gear.

✨ Key Features

Adds MK2 and MK3 versions of Institute energy weapons with stronger stats.
Reworks Institute weapons to be more powerful, addressing the faction's technological superiority.
Focused on the Institute weapon category, not a global weapon overhaul.

📊 Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Fills a real gap—Institute weapons were underwhelming compared to other factions.
  • Simple concept, likely easy to install and use.
  • Decent community support with 166 endorsements and 37k downloads.

⚠️ Cons

  • Last updated in January 2022—may not be compatible with the latest Fallout 4 patches or DLC.
  • Only covers Institute weapons, so if you want broader energy weapon tweaks, this won't help.
  • No detailed patch notes or compatibility info provided in the description.
🎯 Is This For You?
For Fallout 4 players who love the Institute aesthetic but hate that their weapons feel like pea-shooters. Also for lore-focused players who want tech-advanced weapons to actually feel advanced. Skip if you're fine with vanilla balance or want a more comprehensive weapon overhaul.
