Hearts of Darkness

Hearts of Darkness is a character focused series of quests following the lives of several original characters as they seek a way to survive in the wasteland and amongst each other. And while they each have their own lives, hopes, and fears; their fate, for good or ill, ultimately rests on what the player does or doesn't do. But in this world where there is more gray than black or white, what is right and what is wrong can be subservient to the instinct to survive.

The companions in this mod have more self autonomy than the traditional Fo4 ones do. Thus, while the player will sometimes be able to

choose who they work with, they will not be able to hire or fire them at will.

That being said, as the player is following their companion around, they will sometimes have the option to ask to take a short break so they can explore a building or whatever. This option will only appear when it makes sense within the larger quest. For example you can't ask to go sightseeing when you are supposed to be rescuing somebody...

Most quests that involve following the companion have also been updated to  let your PC say "I know the way." If you say that, then the follower will follow you and a map marker will appear.

Additionally, when the player is following a companion, the companion will stop leading and switch to following the player to assist in combat.

If your companion has stopped leading because enemies detected you, you can ask your companion to continue on anyway. They'll generally listen

to you unless they have taken damage themselves.

There are no romances in this mod, however you can develop friendships with your companions and that will affect the end-game of the mod.
